1990 - 2000

The vehicles used in the 1990's were Lambretta, Vijay, Enfield, Chetak,  TVS.

The vehicles used now a days are Honda Activa, Dio.

INFRASTRUCTURE OF BENGALURU

The infrastructure of Bengaluru has changed a lot. 

·       Hebbal lake did exist at a larger scale during 90s, Sahakaranagar was considered outskirts

·      Cunningham Road and K G Road weren't one-ways!

·     Bannerghatta road implied only one thing for me - tiger safari.

·       Inner ring road between Indiranagar and Koramangala was deserted except for people who were testing how fast their cars could go. That has since changed to a road where people test their patience. 

·       Every landscaped BDA park was a playground where children would spend the seemingly endless summer holidays and evenings playing cricket, football, etc.

·       Indiranagar and Koramangala were very new layouts, known only for mosquitoes and floods in the rainy season. Whitefield was a far off place, known to us only as a train station on the way to Chennai.

·       Storm drains next to houses, colloquially known as ‘morries', were uncovered. We would have big fights about who would fetch any football/cricket ball that fell into it.

From single screen to multiplex theaters in Bengaluru

1990 - 2000

During the 90's there were only single screen theaters.  Kempe Gowda Road in the Majestic area had probably the highest number of  cinema theatres per square mile in  the whole country. The cinema houses on KG Road included Prabhat (at the beginning of KG Road coming from Mysore Bank Square), States (opposite to Prabhat), Sagar, Kempegowda, Geeta and  Majestic. Movieland was also in the same area .

2001 - 2016

Multiplex theaters started to compete with the single screen theaters. Few of the prominent multiplexes are PVR and INOX.  

FROM CITY WITH TREES TO BUILDINGS

1990 - 2000

Bengaluru in the 90's was known for its greenness. There were less buildings and more of Greenery. If an area dint have enough trees, it was considered as outskirts.

I still remember I used to play a game called “tree tree which tree “as there was so many tress that we could start this game on any road.

2001 - 2016

The greenery slowly started disappearing, now a days, kids do not usually play "tree tree which tree" as there are less trees. Apartments are coming almost everywhere. 

ENTRY OF I.T. TO BENGALURU

The big picture started to emerge in Bangalore during the 1990s. This was the formative decade for Infosys, Wipro and a handful of other Indian companies that were tapping global markets. In 1997, Karnataka became the first Indian state to announce an information technology policy . It was in the 1990s that some of the world’s biggest tech companies, such as IBM, Sun Microsystems, Cisco, Philips, Intel and Nortel, entered Bangalore.

FROM CRICKET FRENZY TO FOOTBALL FRENZY

1990 - 2000

Cricket has always been a favorite sport of the Indians and the people of Bengaluru. The likes of Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble who represented the Indian cricket team made the people of Bengaluru like the game more than any other game. Most of the schools and colleges during the 90's only had a cricket club and a cricket team. The games played in the streets of Bengaluru and in the grounds were prominently Cricket.

2001 - 2016

People of Bengaluru lost interest in Cricket and at that time Football made a impression on the youth of Bengaluru. It was during this time, BENGALURU FC made its entry. This changed the frenzy to football.

FROM DOUBLE DECKER BUS TO VOLVO IN BENGALURU

1990-2000

During my childhood, i enjoyed taking the double decker bus number 134 to Ulsoor from Shivajinagar. It was one of the memorable experiences i had. Travelling in double decker was a must and should for almost every kid as it was a ' wow ' factor.

2001-2006

Volvo buses became a ' wow ' factor when they were first launched. The Volvo buses came with AC features which attracted the Bengaluru crowd.
